ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
Kansas is committed to alternative energy, thanks to a Renewable Energy Standard requiring that 20 percent of the state’s energy come from renewable sources by 2020. We offer a property tax exemption for projects generating electricity from renewable sources, and our new wind and solar incentive can provide up to $5 million for eligible projects.

Located in the heart of the nation’s Wind Corridor, Kansas offers an ideal location for wind turbine manufacturing. Ranked second in the nation for wind energy potential, Kansas has over 1,000 megawatts of wind generating capacity, with plenty of room for more. The state’s new wind and solar manufacturing incentive – which makes up to $5 million available for eligible projects – can support investment in solar module and supply chain manufacturing facilities.

As a traditional agricultural leader and a state blessed with tremendous natural resources, Kansas is positioned to be a forerunner in renewable energy production. Kansas ranks fourth in total biomass production, with companies benefiting from economical access to feedstock for bio-based fuels, as well as proximity to feedlots that serve as a market for the animal feed resulting from biofuel byproducts.

DISTRIBUTION AND TRANSPORTATION
Whether by highway, rail or air, Kansas offers excellent transportation and marketing advantages for your business. Because we’re central and because we’ve focused on building and maintaining an outstanding infrastructure, it’s easier and cheaper to ship to and from Kansas. We’re home to numerous production facilities, warehouses and distribution centers that have found shipping raw materials and finished goods is more profitable when you’re located in the nation’s heartland.

BIOSCIENCE
Animal health is one of our leading bioscience sectors, with the nation’s Animal Health Corridor running through the heart of Kansas. This corridor has the world’s largest concentration of animal health interests and accounts for nearly 32 percent of total sales in the $19 billion global animal health market.

Another major emphasis is in the area of clinical research. Kansas is part of a bi-state region that ranks in the top five nationally for its concentration of clinical research firms.

To support our bioscience efforts, Kansas leadership is investing $580 million via the Kansas Bioscience Authority to make Kansas a national leader in the biosciences by funding research, development and commercialization.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING
Advanced manufacturing is an important driver in the Kansas economy. Kansas’ heritage is already rich in the advanced manufacturing sector as the aviation industry has a tremendous impact on our economy.

Aviation products are typically the number one export of Kansas as the state manufacturers over 50 percent of all U.S.-manufactured general aviation aircraft.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Kansas has emerged as a leader for professional service companies, including those involved in finance, accounting, information technology and architectural design. In fact, the past two years have seen unprecedented success for Kansas in terms of recruiting new service-related companies to Kansas, with corporate leaders such as J.P. Morgan, U.S. Bank, Cerner Healthcare and Regent Asset Management all establishing new facilities here.
