Housing Quality Rates

CoreLogic ranked Shawnee county 30th among 387 U.S. counties, as having the lowest percentage of homeowners whose mortgages were under water as of September 30, 2010. This study indicates only 6.5% of mortgages in Shawnee County are under water. Negative equity, often referred to as “underwater” or “upside down,” means that borrowers owe more on their mortgage than their homes are worth. Negative equity can occur because of a decline in value, an increase in mortgage debt or a combination of both.
