GO TOPEKA CELEBRATES NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAY WITH 4TH ANNUAL MADE FOR MANUFACTURING EVENT
Topeka, KS — GO Topeka is celebrating National Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 3rd with its 4th annual Made for Manufacturing event, shining a spotlight on the strength and opportunities within Shawnee County’s robust manufacturing sector.
This year’s event takes a new approach by offering students the chance to tour multiple manufacturing companies in Topeka before gathering at Washburn Tech for lunch, activities, and further engagement with local employers. Over 200 students from nine area high schools will participate in the tours on Manufacturing Day, with an additional day of tours scheduled to accommodate schools that did not meet the initial deadline. By the conclusion of the two-day program, more than 400 local high school students will have experienced firsthand the variety of career pathways available in Shawnee County’s manufacturing industry.
In addition to showcasing careers in manufacturing, the event will also serve as the soft launch of TopCity FAME. The FAME program (Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) is designed to help students prepare for a rewarding career in advanced manufacturing. Through TopCity FAME, students can earn a college degree while working part-time for a local company—gaining valuable real-world experience and a paycheck along the way. Graduates leave the program with in-demand technical skills, professional work habits, and a strong foundation to build a long-term career in Topeka’s growing manufacturing industry.
“This event is about more than just one day—it’s about building bridges between students, schools, and employers to strengthen our local workforce,” said Trina Goss, Director of Business & Talent Initiatives at GO Topeka. “By giving students, the opportunity to explore manufacturing careers here in Topeka, we’re helping them see the incredible possibilities available right in their own community.”
This year’s Made for Manufacturing event is made possible by the generous support of sponsors: Moore Digital Print and Mail Center as the Presenting Sponsor, Ernest Spencer Metals as the Supporting Sponsor, and Washburn Tech as the Host Sponsor.
