The City of Topeka offers several economic development incentives to qualifying projects.
The following improvement districts have been defined in the City of Topeka:
Topeka has three opportunity zones all situated within a few minutes of interstate highways and class I rail systems. Situated in the middle of the U.S, there is an infrastructure built for business.
The City of Topeka code allows the City Manager the option to waive fees for economic development projects up to 25%.
Possible uses for the grant funds include Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments (ESAs) and site/area reuse and cleanup planning.
The Planning & Development Department administers the City’s Neighborhood Revitalization Plan (NRP), which provides tax rebates to property owners making improvements that raise the appraised value of residential property by 10% and of commercial property by 20%.
The Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO) was established by an interlocal agreement between Shawnee County and the City of Topeka. It is funded through the half cent countywide retailers sales tax and is to be used for economic development.
